I voted but missed the opportunity to post, looks like it cut off on the

22nd.B  So I will post my post that didnt post below.


I have never posted on a blog in my life, but this topic I know

something about. As I usually see there are plenty of strong opinions

but many fewer with first hand experience.

Let me say I love the looks of the TR6. Back in the day when body/frame

twist counted as suspension travel they were considered good handling

cars. Fit one with a full cage and killer motor and they won many, many

SCCA races. But those are not street cars.

So let me address some of the poor electrical reputation of the TR7 &

TR8. The early TR7bs had only 3 fuses in the fuse box. Have a problem,

and sorting it is a real challenge. Later 7bs & TR8bs have double or

more fuses in the box making trouble shooting easier, I think. I am not

100% sure as my 8 hasnbt given me any electrical issues. I have owned my

car nearly 30 years and bought it unmolested, so I have had no trouble.

The Wedges had a bmodern for the timeb electrical system. The vast

majority of electrical problems I am betting is because Charles &

Winston, thinking the bI can fix all 4 wires in my TR3b dive into the

Wedge electrical system and are over their heads immediately, but of

course that wonbt stop them.

Second lets address convertible body rigidity. Have any of these critics

ever driven an 80bs Camaro or Mustang convertible? I have. Due to the

short wheelbase and body reinforcements of the Wedge converts I can say

I have not driven nor ridden in an open topped car of similar vintage

that was stiffer, it is surprisingly good.

3^rd is suspension performance & ride. The ride is modern & comfortable

for long distance touring. If you want performance you can stiffen it up

& lower it, I have found mine, mildly modified , to be a hoot on the

autocross course (if you like high speed sweepers with the steering

crossed up, the tail mildy hanging out & the back tires spinning as they

try to get traction. It is very chuckable, controllable and not near the

bottom of the performance pile. But suspension is the carbs aftermarket

Achilles heel. 13b wheels, an odd bolt pattern and small wheelwells make

it impossible to get great rubber under the car at low cost, you have to

spend some $$. Also the availability of bigger brakes, swaybars & other

suspension goodies is limited. If you want to compete in AutoX you will

have to be a DIY kind of guy with some skills, this aint a 911 or a

Camaro where you can order up catalogs and have a selection of goodies

from mild to wild.

On the power side I have firsthand knowledge of a friend who did the

following: Low restriction exhaust/mufflers on stock cast iron exhaust

manifolds, desmogged. Fit some K&N filters in the stock airbox, set the

timing to 10 deg BTDC & put different needles in the strombergs. That

car went down the road at a GPS verified 131+ mph. Lets see you do that

in your TR6.B  LOL
